Summer Registration

Summer Registration

Students register for the summer quarter during the eighth week of the spring quarter. In addition to registration, students may change enrollments (add/drop) in weeks nine through eleven of spring quarter. Summer tuition for doctoral students on a Division of the Humanities fellowship is covered.

Students who receive summer student loans are required to register for summer quarter. Students who receive summer work-study money are not required to register. Please direct questions regarding summer student loans and/or the federal work-study program to the Student Loan Administration.  Students who hold non-work study positions (including teaching at the Summer Language Institute and the Graham School) are not required to register for summer quarter.

Summer Language Training
Graduate students may take intensive language courses over the summer offered by the Summer Language Institute through the Chicago Language Center. Such study enables doctoral students to advance more quickly and to focus during the academic year on training in their fields of study. It also enables master’s students to enhance and deepen their knowledge of a particular language.

Newly admitted doctoral students are eligible to undertake intensive language study at the University of Chicago through the Summer Language Institute in courses offered in the summer quarter prior to the first year of the academic program. They will receive tuition aid for those courses and their University stipend. These students will have their registration clock begin in Summer Quarter and therefore their maximum quarter of enrollment will be Spring Quarter.

Master’s students enrolling in language courses taught over the summer at the University of Chicago through the Summer Language Institute will be charged tuition for those courses. Newly admitted master’s students may be eligible to undertake intensive language study at the University of Chicago through the Summer Language Institute in courses offered in the summer quarter prior to the first year of the academic program and will be charged tuition for those courses. Language courses taken over the summer by master’s students usually will not count towards their degree requirements.
