Maja Sunleaf
Department Administrator
Department of Linguistics
What do you like most about your job?
I love the interactions I have with students and faculty. Getting to learn about the research they are all doing, from documenting languages in danger of extinction to analyzing parasitic gaps, is incredibly interesting. I also really enjoy when they come to my office to show me pictures of the pets they have at home.
What was the last good book you read?
The Battle of Lincoln Park: Urban Renewal and Gentrification in Chicago by Daniel Kay Hertz. I had no idea that area had such a tumultuous past.
You might work with me if ...
… need to book Rosenwald 208 or want to cross-list a course in Linguistics.
If you could meet one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
I would want to meet Elvis Presley. I share a birthday with The King and my father and grandfather are both Elvis impersonators. To see how my family's performances compare to his and to share a peanut butter and banana sandwich with the man himself would be something else.
