Meet the Staff: A. Özge Koçak Hemmat
More than 100 staff members work in the Division of the Humanities. We'll introduce you to our staff in this continuing series.
A. Özge Koçak Hemmat
Senior Administrator, Student Affairs;
Office of the Dean of Students
What do you like most about your job?
I love my team in the Dean of Students office; it’s very important to me to work with people who can be both professional and genial at the same time.
What was the last good book you read?
There is no ‘one’ book. I love reading sci-fi and fantasy. I recently read Liu Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past series which was very impressive. Another series I finished in the last couple of years that I am still thinking about was Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons. As a Northwestern alum, I recently read their 2020–21 selection, Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. I think it should be essential reading for everyone and deserves all the attention it receives.
You might work with me if ...
… anything related to graduation, student milestones, and student employment among other things. Also, if you have questions and are not sure to whom to direct them to, there’s a good chance I can help you find the right person/office.
What’s something that you’re looking forward to in the next six months?
I'm going to teach a course on multiple modernities at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago this Fall. I've been away from teaching for a few years now, so I am very excited—a little nervous, too!
