After Graduation
All students who borrowed funds from any University of Chicago loan program, including government sponsored programs such as Federal Perkins, Direct Stafford or GradPLUS, are required under federal regulations to have exit interview counseling before leaving the University and receiving diplomas. The Graduate Financial Aid office notifies students of the process for completing this requirement. Students may call their office at (773) 702-6061 for more information.
If you have student loans in deferment, you should contact your lenders for information about your grace period, forbearance options, and a repayment schedule.
If you are a participant in U-SHIP, your U-SHIP coverage will continue through the end of the quarter. For information on Continuation coverage available directly through the University's insurance carrier, visit the Student Wellness page.
If you are an international student, you should inform the Office of International Affairs if you are receiving a terminal degree (i.e PhD or terminal MA—not transitional MA). If you fail to notify OIA, this could have serious consequences if you want to visit, study, or work in the U.S. in the future.
Your access to University libraries and IT Services will change. For information on IT Services account closure and transition policy, visit the IT Services Knowledge Base. As an alumnus/alumna of the University you are eligible for certain benefits, including on-site Library access and email forwarding. For information on obtaining library access, setting up an alumni email forwarding account, and other alumni benefits, visit the website of the Alumni Association.
